As a parent, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing in childhood today. I watched as kids became restless, overstimulated, and constantly in need of entertainment. In a world that prizes scores and achievement, the pressure to keep up seemed inescapable. Families, including my own, filled every moment with structured activities, chasing productivity at the expense of something deeper. 

But that still, small voice kept asking, "At what cost is all of this achievement?"

Following my deepest instincts, I encouraged several families to prioritize slowing down and de-structuring our lives with time in nature. They let me take their children into the wilderness several times a week, and kids were continually filled with awe and wonder as they explored, climbed, invented games, built structures and used nature to create unique art. As they pondered the vastness of the mountains along with the details of the insects' tiny homes, we all watched each child transform into more peaceful, confident and empathetic little humans! It was incredible!

I knew this was a big part of the answer, so I started to build. My goal was to create a program that seamlessly integrates both calm and curiosity - helping kids slow down, recharge, and engage deeply with the world around them. I wanted every experience to be guided by two foundational pillars: Discovering The Wild Within and The Wild Beyond. The Wild Within speaks to the cultivation of emotional strength, focus, and resilience through immersive nature experiences, while The Wild Beyond speaks to the sparking of innate curiosity through scientific exploration and hands-on discovery. And so Nature Rangers emerged in Santa Barbara with a new and unique vision for whole-child development.

Since opening to the public in 2021, we’ve grown each year, expanding into multiple states and now offering over 20 programs annually, sharing the gift of exploration with countless families.

Now with a team of wilderness lovers and trained educators, we continue to bring together our expertise and passions creating spaces where kids get to explore, create and learn through hands-on experiences in nature. A place where kids feel heard, seen and appreciated for their own special gifts. A place that is non-political and brimming with love. We hope to have the honor of serving your family!
